This is a simple lesson, the power of fennel fonds. Now this is not to say,
“ADD FENNEL FONDS TO EVERY THING YOU EVER PLATE EVER!!”
Of course make sure the flavor profiles are cohesive. The lacy fronds have a delicate anise flavor and are so tender that they practically melt in your mouth. Think of them as herbs, just like dill or tarragon.
They don’t hold up well to long cooking, but are best used fresh as a whimsical texture and garnish. This steak, mashed cauliflower and Brussel sprouts would look quite bland, but the fennel bumps it up a notch.
FLIGHTESS TIP: Keep a bulb of fennel in your fridge bag for easy access garnish accessor.
